Reflection on making a website

Being tasked with creating a website as part of the final year of the Creative Practice degree has forced me to create a public space for my art. This has been challenging on a number of levels.

Primarily this has challenged my technology skills. Or lack or technology skills. Meta data? Algorithms? Terrifying! After some research and a couple of trials, I found square space a good fit for me and what I wanted to create, bearing in mind this is the foundation for my future work and practice.

Above and beyond the technicalities, this has forced me to actively promote my art, to curate and define my practice. This is not in my comfort zone. I love creating, wielding a paintbrush and getting fully immersed in a piece of work. Technology is not my strong point and making my art more public is terrifying. Art work is subjective. Whilst I put my soul into my work, a single criticism can knock my confidence flat. Actively putting my art work on to the World Wide Web feels as though I am placing myself on the edge of a cliff. However, the feeling is also euphoric and exciting. I am completing the final year of my degree and who knows where my journey may lead through public engagement.

I need to step off, look forward and reach out.
