Botanical Contact Print

By collecting local plants and fauna, I follow an alchemist style process, to prepare papers and textiles ready to accept the pigments and prints from leaves and flowers. The process involves water, heat, good contact and plenty of time! The prints can be enhanced with additions of metal extracts and other naturally derived products. The process requires dedicated experimentation to achieve pleasing results. Unrolling the contact rolls following processing is not always satisfying, but can achieve some amazing results. I have also experimented with the printed silk fabrics to make 3D objects which capture the light and give a luminescence to the pieces.
